Better Days
February 21st, 2008I sincerely hope that as gay porn becomes more integrated, more mainstream, we won’t lose so many stars to drugs. As we have in the past. Sure, some stars survived. Roger, Jack, a few others. But too many went the way of heroin and early death. Like the fantastic Lee Ryder.
What was it? The nasty underside of the business back then, a combination of shame and wild partying? Joey Stefano, Vincent, even the relative newcomer Haus Weston - all gone. I wonder what made them turn to drugs. I suppose it could have been that filming gay porn back then was just too traumatic. I’ve known amateur stars, too, who passed away from AIDS. But usually, from all the bios I’ve read, it was smack. Let’s let sanity take over. Men make choices these days. And if there’s anything to be said for increased gay freedom and rights, it just may be that we don’t watch more talent die from a needle.
