I can only imagine how many gay bloggers have speculated on Heath’s passing. 28? He was still a baby.

But, in the media frenzy I’ve seen, it reminds me strongly of other babies who died before their time. Like Marilyn Monroe. Another beautiful blonde with talent. I can’t pretend to know whether Heath’s death was intentional or accidental. I do think that living in Soho in New York couldn’t have been very good for an Aussie. I once considered putting a bid on his house in Australia. Brokeback had just come out, he was hot stuff, and the house nicely priced.

My biggest concern, however, is how we react to this tragedy. I want us to mourn a good talent, not a gay icon. He was beautiful, to be sure. Yet we must bypass our crushes on him and simply feel for the family he left behind. Rest in peace, Heath. The angels do sing and you’ll hear them.
