Black and White
January 3rd, 2008A friend pointed out that my previous post was blatantly racist. I hollered. I denied it. Then I thought more about it. I dwelled. I pondered.
Most of us are racist, to one extent or another. I’m sure I am, to a degree. But I have huge problems with dudes who mask their own racism - that is to say, liking only Black men - under the guise of ‘preference’. Bias is bias, whether it’s a liking for a type or a dislike. And that’s racism. Calling it anything else is pure bullshit.
Then there was his issue with my saying that Black guys “are just like us”. Well, what if I had said that we’re just like them? Then would I be guilty of racism against white guys? My whole point is that racism has become such an inflated concept, it’s lost its validity. I do believe as well that REAL racism can only be combated one man at a time. You get to know the guy and you find he is real and as human as you are.Sorry to be so severe. I just wanted to explain my thoughts better, if I could.

i don’t think your comments are severe so much as they are incoherent. Gay men seem to enjoy dissecting the whole man for his parts, black dicks, white asses etc. What I find annoying and ironic is that I would encounter this conversation at the Enrique Cruz’s blog. What I love about Cruz’s work beyond his amazing aesthetic sense is his consciousness about the beauty color, the whole, albeit young, man. Your “observations seem dated and weirdly out of place here. As it seems that you are now writing this blog I will take my leave from it. The web is full of the conventional views a of black and white gay life and that is not what we love Enrique for. Peace.

I get your point man. And I have much respect for you to be honest.
People will be sensitive sometimes just for sensitivity sake. As long as we realize that we were created equal even though our paths may have changed our latitude, we may be able co-exist on this crazy ass planet.

“Racism” is a word similar to “hate”, the meaning of the word has been slowly lost in translation over the years. True racism is when a person actively engages in an activity against another race because of very strong feelings that person has towards the race. A better word to use in place of “racism” is “predjudiced”. Everyone has a predjudice, or something that a person just cannot for some reason accept about another race, body type, blah blah blah. A self aware person understands this about themselves and others and hopefully tries to get to the root of why they feel this way. Most people (hopefully) do not want to be predjudiced against others, let alone “racist”. The losers engaging in racism are members of the KKK or the George W. Bush types of the world (and yes, racists also exist in all ethnicities and minority groups, contrary to what some think). So just to be clear, when one uses the term “racist”, think about what you’re saying and who you are saying it to or about. ~LuCKy*
